Located at the southeastern tip of Maryland, Ocean City is a beach town that accepted the first paying guest in 1869. The town is a peninsula bordered to the west by Assawoman and Isle of Wight Bay and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. Hotel properties include those owned by large national chains and locally owned favorites. Ocean City is as equally family friendly as it is appropriate for a quiet couples get-away. Relax in a historic hotel offering the feel of a classic summer resort or mesh into the urban vibe of boutique properties.
Bayside Ocean City hotels provide access to boat and watercraft rentals.
Booking Your Stay
Step 1Consult a current Ocean City, Maryland, map to determine where you’d like to stay. Beach-front hotels offer immediate beach access above the end of the boardwalk at 27th Street. Bayside hotels often offer access to the bay while remaining within a few block walking distance of the beach. The southern-most end of the boardwalk is the oldest and most congested area of town, home to most of the historic hotel properties and amusements.
Step 2Consult an Ocean City events calendar based on dates of travel interest. Note dates for major events that include pre- and postseason multiple day festivals and events. Hotels tend to fill quickly for major events and often charge premium rates for event weekends.
Step 3Choose the hotels of interest based on your travel needs and desired amenities. Investigate each hotel’s individually owned or corporate website or brochures to gain accurate and up-to-date property information.
Step 4Contact each hotel of interest via the property’s reservation website or reservation phone number. Request information on hotel room rates and any additional charges or fees you might incur for your desired travel dates. Keep in mind that room rates fluctuate frequently in the resort town. Make your reservation directly with the hotel.
Step 5Record your reservation confirmation information and any details or requests agreed upon between you and the reservation agent. Ask for a confirmation e-mail or letter that you can file away to take along on your stay.
- Advanced planning is recommended for Ocean City vacations. Sought-after properties fill quickly between Memorial Day and Labor Day and on event weekends. The feel of Ocean City changes based on location. The boardwalk is located at the southern end, and quiet, bay-front hotels and larger resort properties line the northern areas of town.
- Be savvy to seasonal fees and reservation policies. During sought-after dates, hotels often require a minimum stay of three or four nights. Others charge upfront, nonrefundable fees to reserve rooms on weekends and holidays. Hefty fines imposed for late cancellations and no-shows are common.
