Whidbey Island, located about 20 miles north of Seattle, Washington, is a scenic destination accessible by Deception Pass Bridge to the north and the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry to the south. With four state parks, a national preserve and miles of Puget Sound coastline, the island is an oasis of recreational activities and expansive views of passing maritime traffic and the Olympic Mountains. Oak Harbor, located on the north end of Whidbey Island near the Naval Air Station, is home to the Oak Harbor and Clover Valley dog parks. Up to two pets totaling 80 pounds are welcome at the Candlewood Suites (ichotelsgroup.com) in Oak Harbor with additional fees. With 80 rooms and suites on two floors, Candlewood Suites has full kitchens available and separate bedrooms and living areas. Oak Harbor Dog Park is one mile north of the hotel and Clover Valley off-leash park is two miles away. The Acorn Motor Inn (acornmotorinn.com) allows pets in designated rooms and is two blocks from 28.5-acre Windjammer Park on the waterfront. The inn has suites available and serves a complimentary breakfast each morning.
Located at the mid-way point of Whidbey Island on Penn Cove, Coupeville has a 40-acre off-leash park for dogs known as Patmore Pit. Three pet-friendly rooms are available at the two-story Coupeville Inn (thecoupevilleinn.com), located near the 3.8-acre Town Park and four miles from the dog park. A complimentary breakfast is served each morning and several restaurants are within walking distance of the inn. The Tyee Hotel (tyeehotel.com) accepts small pets for an additional nightly fee and offers affordable rooms adjacent to a lounge and restaurant. Patmore Pit is three miles from the Tyee and the hotel is located within the borders of 17,500-acre Ebey’s Landing National Historic Preserve.
Small dogs are welcome at the Langley Motel (langleymotel.com) on the southeast shore of the island, where four one-bedroom suites are available. Full-equipped kitchens are standard in every suite and separate living areas with televisions and comfortable seating. South Whidbey Community Park, two miles south of the motel, has several walking trails available and the beach is one block away. One designated pet-friendly room is available at Langley’s Boatyard Inn (boatyardinn.com) for dogs under 30 pounds. Rooms at the inn have beachfront access, views from private decks, fireplaces and mini-kitchens.
On the southwest side of the island, pet-friendly rooms are available at the Harbour Inn Motel (harbourinnmotel.com) in Freeland. Up to two dogs are permitted with an additional nightly fee and ground floor rooms are provided to guests with pets. A community beach, shops and restaurants are all within walking distance of the motel and microwaves and refrigerators are available in all rooms. For 13 acres of off-leash play, the Marguerite Brons Memorial Park is available 4.5 miles east of the Harbour Inn Motel and features trails and a picnic shelter.
