Rock Creek Campus at Portland Community College is located about 12 miles west of downtown Portland in a region providing many accessible opportunities for outdoor recreation and camping. There are also a number of camping outfitters and trailer rentals near the Rock Creek Campus.

State Park Camping
L.L. Stub Stewart State Park is 31 miles west of Portland and close to the Rock Creek Campus. The park offers 20 miles of non-motorized trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, and access to the Banks-Vernonia State Trail. Stub Stewart State Park features 78 hook-up sites, 12 walk-in tent sites, and 23 primitive hike-in sites in a landscape of rolling hills and forest. The hook-up areas are located at Dairy Creek Camp West and primitive camping is at Brooke Creek.
Rock Creek students have access to the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation sports complex with softball pitches, lacrosse and soccer fields and tennis courts. Non-students can take part in recreational activities including hiking, biking and horseback riding. The Hillsboro region also attracts off-highway vehicles with a network of trails. Browns Camp is a popular staging area for off-highway vehicles with 29 camp sites, vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water.
If you want a campground with plenty of recreational opportunities, try Horning’s Fishing and Picnic Hideout with tent and RV sites. The campsite has three 18-hole disc golf courses including a short-throw course equipped with solar lights for nighttime play, a full par-3 and par-4 course, and a championship course. You can hike the trails, ride a paddle boat or fish for rainbow trout in the lake. The campground also hosts music events.
Campgrounds with full amenities near the Rock Creek Campus include the Pheasant Ridge RV Resort, 20 km south. The 45-acre woodland campground features an indoor swimming pool and spa, grocery store, wireless Internet access and cable TV. The RV Park of Portland is located along the Tualatin River with pull-through, big-rig and slide-out-friendly sites. The Roamers Rest RV Park is a 93-site park with community garden located in Tualatin, offering access to the wildlife and nature trails of the Tualatin River.
Gales Creek Campground is located just off the Wilson River Highway, 20 miles west of Forest Grove, in Tillamook State Forest. The rustic site is set in a young forest of fir, alder and maple, with 23 campsites and a day-use picnic area. Other amenities include vault toilets, fresh drinking water and a recycling program. Tillamook State Forest provides over 50 miles of non-motorized trails, including a climb to the top of King’s Mountain and a mountain bike ride down Gales Creek Trail.
